A very Kyiv bedroom
Raw reflections
“22 October was our worst night so far. Alarms started at 11pm and lasted until 6am. 12 dead including a 30-odd year old woman with her 6 month old child and 12 year old niece. Woke up with a start – too much adrenaline – and placed mattress in the corridor. Air defence super loud. So tired, nauseous showering and had to sit down.
Bombardments have now fully hit the electricity in Kyiv, our Ukrainian lesson was conducted in the light of iPhone torches.
We were of course way too late with realising we’d need candles, and when we got to the shop, there were only two beaten up mini candles left. It was only when we returned to the the dark apartment that we remembered we couldn’t light the candles, having forgotten matches. Also a bad way to remember the cooking gas doesn’t light into fire without electricity.”
